Freesia speciosa flowers

    Freesia speciosa flowers

The about three to six large, spectacular flowers of Freesia speciosa grow in a simple, sometimes branched spike, facing in the same direction.

The corollas are white and yellow, sometimes marked in orange, usually on the lower three tepals of the two-lipped flowers only. A corolla tube ends in six pointed tepal tips, curved slightly and variably. It is up to 65 mm long, the mouth 30 mm in diameter.

Flowering happens from late winter to early spring (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist; Wikipedia; https://www.pacificbulbsociety.org).
