    Euphorbia mauritanica flower nearing the end

    In this picture taken at Kagga Kamma in September, the development of the Euphorbia mauritanica fruit has progressed to the point where the central male flower is nearly shrivelled up, soon to disappear. The fruits are now pushed up on green stalks, separated from the base of fleshy glands, while the branched styles are still attached to their tips.

    Note the narrow green leaves still on the stems below. The summer heat has not yet succeeded in making them fall.
