The false flowers or cyathia of Euphorbia bergii grow at stem tops on large globose involucres that grow on sturdy green peduncles. In the photo the three oblong branches of the greenish yellow stigma can be observed in the centre of at least one cyathium.
Some erect stalks topped with anthers can also be seen; the reduced male flowers. The circle of five fleshy green glands with yellow rings around them, decorated with finger-like protuberances pointing outwards around the cyathium perimeter, appears like something extraterrestrial (iSpot).
