Euphorbia dregeana fruit

    Euphorbia dregeana fruit

Six-angled, red capsules, the elegantly shaped to pumpkin-like fruit of Euphorbia dregeana crown their stems proudly. Still tipped with tiny style-remains in picture, the red colouring has a faint velvety covering in white, adding lustre to the celebration of a quality product. The capsule becomes 6 mm tall and 9 mm wide.

Bulky cyathia remains, immediately below the fruits tell a story of complex manufacturing processes completed earlier. A pair of large, leafy bracts, yellowish and triangular were present then, subtending the fruit before dropping off. These bracts were also present under the pale yellow flowers that began the sequence (Frandsen, 2017; iNaturalist).
