Aristea africana fruit and corolla remains

Aristea africana fruit and corolla remains

The fruits of Aristea africana are clustered densely in picture at the tip of the flower stalk. They are pale green, short and three-winged, some red notable on the wing rim tops.

The tightly twisted corolla remains persist like contorted black worms at the fruit tips. Also variously curved are the long, hair-like fringes of the spathes still subtending the fruit (Manning, 2007; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iSpot).
