Crassula deltoidea

    Crassula deltoidea

Crassula deltoidea, commonly known as silver beads, is a leaf succulent reaching heights around 15 cm when in flower. The early San indigenous population called it katakiso, while in Afrikaans it goes by the name gruisplakkie (small gravel slab).

Flowering happens early in summer. The leaves of this plant are usually regarded as a bigger feature than the tiny flowers.

The species distribution is in the Northern Cape Karoo, the Western Cape in at least the Tankwa Karoo and the Little Karoo and the west of the Eastern Cape.

In habitat this plant will often be found sheltering under bigger, non-succulent shrubs. The species is not considered threatened in habitat early in the twenty first century.

The plant has become popular with gardeners, even internationally. It is a good choice for gardens in arid conditions where temperature extremes are common (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Smith and Crouch, 2009; www.redlist.sanbi.org).
