Moraea polyanthos, the bloutulp flower and fruit

Moraea polyanthos, the bloutulp flower and fruit

Moraea polyanthos flowers succeed each other in the branched inflorescences on the erect stems, each flower lasting only about a day. Flowers open around midday and close at sunset.

All six tepal lobes spread in this species.  The corolla diameter is about 3 cm (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Moriarty, 1997; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist; www.pacificbulbsociety.org).
