Didelta carnosa var. carnosa flowerhead

    Didelta carnosa var. carnosa flowerhead

The young Didelta carnosa var. carnosa flowerhead has its ring of elliptic ray florets spreading yellow around the central disc. The ray tips are broadly notched, a couple of small teeth are present on the floor of each notch. These ray florets are sterile; look to the disc for seed production.

Some disc florets in the outer ring have opened, their five narrow segment lobes curving out. The stamen has a lance-shaped appendage at its tip protruding far; the style is branched.

The majority of the disc florets are still closed. The dark-tipped buds are erect, standing neatly together as match sticks on parade (Manning, 2009; Le Roux, et al, 2005).
