Aloe microstigma subsp. microstigma

In Namaqualand a form of Aloe microstigma, commonly called the Kamiesberg aloe, is long-stemmed as these plants, adding to the allure of the Namaqua Klipkoppe habitat. Called A. microstigma subsp. microstigma in the past, it seems as if the subspecies may no longer be recognised, lumping this plant with the A. microstigma common in a big part of the Western Cape.

The stem is usually single and up to 2 m tall. The leaf dimensions are 40 cm long by 8 cm wide near the base.

The inflorescence of up to 90 cm long is a panicle of four to eight racemes, about 30 cm long. The tubular flowers are orange-red with greenish yellow tips. They appear in the first half of winter (Le Roux, et al, 2005).
