Rhynchopsidium pumilum

    Rhynchopsidium pumilum

Rhynchopsidium pumilum grows in Namaqualand sand or clay soils, sometimes lusher than seen here, earning the common Afrikaans name of geelsneeu (yellow snow) from prolific flowering.

This is the only Rhynchopsidium in Namaqualand. One more species, R. sessiliflorum bearing stalkless flowers as the specific name indicates, is found from Clanwilliam to Port Elizabeth (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Manning, 2009; Le Roux, et al, 2005; iNaturalist).
