Calpurnia woodii leaves

    Calpurnia woodii leaves

The alternate leaves of Calpurnia woodii are imparipinnate (compound with a terminal leaflet as well), growing on long petioles of 9 mm to 26 mm and becoming up to 20 cm long. The eight to fourteen pairs of leaflets grow on short stalks (petiolules), only up to 2 mm long.

Leaflet shape is oblong-elliptic to ovate, the base rounded, the apex tapering to rounded with a fine, hair-like tip present. Leaflets are silvery green, densely hairy, more so above than below. The leaflet margins are entire. Leaflet dimensions are 1 cm to 4 cm by 0,5 cm to 1,5 cm (Coates Palgrave, 2002; Beaumont, et al, Bothalia 29/1, pp 5-23, 1999).
