Kedrostis africana fruit

    Kedrostis africana fruit

The small fruit of Kedrostis africana is an almost spherical berry, the tip of which may protrude beak-like. Fruit colour starts off bicoloured green with longitudinal, pale yellow bands and irregular markings, turning orange and red upon ripening.

Several globose seeds are produced in one fruit. The plant is not browsed, but people have used the fruit as a laxative after soaking it in brandy or wine (Shearing and Van Heerden, 2008; Leistner, (Ed.), 2000; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iSpot).
